The Central Railway (CR) has slapped a private sector bank with a fine of R8 lakh for damaging an overhead wire at Dadar railway station, while shifting an ATM machine in its premises.
The incident took place on January 27, when a firm hired by YES Bank had been tasked with shifting an ATM machine situated near the booking office at Dadar station. While work was underway, a cable connected to the ATM accidentally fell on the overhead wire on Platform No. 4. Due to the incident, the wire tripped, resulting in trains being detained for 10 minutes during peak hours, between 6.56 pm and 7.06 pm.
According to railway officials, soon after the incident a committee was appointed to investigate the case.

The report stated that the workers, who were charged with the shifting of the ATM, had reportedly fled from the spot after the accident. YES Bank authorities were contacted and informed about the incident.
YES Bank officials had informed the railway officials that the general manager (ATM) of the company had in December instructed his staff to remove all ATM machines from railway stations in the city, and surrender the property to the Railways.
Subsequently, last month, YES Bank authorised Hitachi Payments Services to remove ATMs installed at various CR stations. When contacted, Vinod Magade, senior channel manger, Hitachi Payment Services, confirmed that he had received the order, and said that his firm had authorised Image Solutions &amp; Branding Pvt Ltd and Kishore Bagai Transport Pvt Ltd to dismantle the ATMs.

However, when representatives from the two firms arrived at Dadar railway station premises on January 27 to undertake dismantling work, they had not intimated the stationmaster. Further, eyewitnesses revealed that the two workers at the spot had fled as soon as they noticed smoke emanating from the overhead wire. While there was no loss of property or life, due to the 10 minute-long detention of trains, the CR suffered heavy losses of up to Rs 8 lakh.
Sources said that the workers have been identified as Ajay Chavan and Santosh Shinde. CR decided to slap the fine on YES Bank, as the company had outsourced all the agencies.
When contacted, YES bank authorities said they did not wish to comment on the incident.
