It might be polling season, but there is no end to how taxpayers&rsquo; money can get wasted. In a case which appears to be a waste of time and manpower, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started to dig out paver blocks from the Chincholi fatak road in Malad West on Thursday. The civic body started to dig the road to lay cement in the stretch.

Residents have expressed their disappointment, claiming that there was no need to concretise the stretch and that the civic body is unnecessarily digging the road, thereby affecting the traffic flow.
Initially, paver blocks were used to build this road and not even a single block was out of place. However, more than 50 per cent of the road has been dug out from Chincholi fatak to Shree Ramanyaney Legacy of Mumbai to convert it into a cement road.
Rajesh Tanwani, a local resident, said, &ldquo;There was not even a single scratch on the road. They are unnecessarily repairing the road. We have started facing a problem because of the traffic jam. I think it&rsquo;s simply a waste of time, money and resources.&rdquo;&nbsp; He further added that the Chincholi fatak road is not a busy junction and hence, paver blocks could have remained since the blocks were not damaged.
A banner has been put up at the construction site stating that the work would be completed in 24 months, excluding the monsoon season.
Locals have also expressed a fear of facing traffic and waterlogging issues during the monsoon as the construction work will remain incomplete during the rains. &ldquo;We didn&rsquo;t face problems when the stretch was made up of paver blocks. There was no need for a&nbsp; cement road,&rdquo; said Ashwin Patodia, another local resident.
When contacted, Sneha Vinayak Zagade, the area corporator said, &ldquo;They started the work to reduce the water logging caused due to the nullah, which flows from the Chincholi fatak towards the road.
