Mumbai: Central Railway gets wind energy, saves Rs 35 crore per year

Use of wind energy will also reduce Indian Railways' and consequently Nation's carbon footprint by 0.082 Million Tonnes of Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

The Central Railway this week signed an agreement for the supply of wind energy that will lead to savings of Rs 35 crores per year.
"In line with national policy and Indian Railway's commitment for a clean environment, with assistance from the Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL), Central Railway has executed an agreement with the National Thermal Power Corporation's (NTPC) Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd for the supply of wind energy. The supply has started from June 22 from Wind Energy Plant of 50.4 MW of the National Aluminium Company (NALCO) at Jath Sangli, Maharashtra," Central Railway's chief public relations officer Sunil Udasi said.
