A 33-year-old banker from Rajkot, Gujarat, was nabbed by the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) unit of the Cyber Crime Cell last week for mentally harassing a woman on popular social networking site Instagram. The posting of the inappropriate comments began three months ago, and after the victim couldn&rsquo;t take it any more and approached the police for help.

According to the police, the accused, identified only as Aditya, used three different fake profiles to target the woman. They also said that he was disturbed and unhappy with his job, and vented his frustration by passing nasty comments on the victim&rsquo;s photographs. Aditya is married and has two children.
The complainant, Neha Rajadhyaksha, is a resident of Andheri and works in social media marketing. She said, &ldquo;I love photography and I would regularly upload photos on Instagram. In July, a user with the account @babu362436 began posting abusive comments below my photos and continued to do so for a while until I blocked him.
After a few days, I started receiving similar inappropriate comments with obscene language from another account @babuagain26.&rdquo; &ldquo;To stop this, I apologised to him if I had wronged him in any way, but it had no effect. I then blocked that profile, too, as I couldn&rsquo;t take any more of the stress,&rdquo; she added.
Help from social media To solve the matter once and for all, she turned to Twitter and Facebook for advice, where a few people convinced her to take the matter to the MIDC police station, where police recorded the statement. She also submitted photographic evidence of the abusive comments she had received. The case was then transferred to the BKC unit of the Cyber Crime police.
The unit was able to trace the culprit in a month, and wasted no time in nabbing him. ACP Nandkishore More of BKC Cyber Crime Cell said, &ldquo;We detained the accused, who has given a written apology to the victim. He was frustrated with his boss and was against those uploading photos on the social networking sites.&rdquo; With an end to this harrowing chapter, Rajadhyaksha said, &ldquo;I am very happy with the way the Mumbai police handled the situation and I thank them for helping me out.&rdquo;
