The Malad police have arrested a 40-year-old man for harassing his daughter by showing her pornography. The incident came to light when the victim told her mother about it; the latter lodged a police complaint.
According to the police, the 12-year-old victim resides with her parents and elder brother. Her mother approached the police station last morning and registered a complaint against the father.
Inquiry revealed that the victim had tolerated her father's abuse for a long time, but when she couldn't take it any longer, she complained to her mother.
Police sources said the victim had told her mother about the harassment several times in the past, but every time, the latter tried to reason with her husband and make him understand that it was wrong. This time, when the girl complained to her mother again, a fight broke out between the couple, following which, she approached the police.
Speaking to mid-day, an officer said, "A case has been registered against the accused under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections of the POCSO Act. The accused will be produced in court on Thursday."
