After robbing one family in a building in Ambernath yesterday, a group of eight motivated robbers broke the next door, where two brothers managed to shoo them away.

First robbery: a success The robbers stole gold ornaments worth Rs 1.2 lakh and Rs 10,000 cash from a family of four &mdash; Gajanan Suresh Kadam (38), a businessman, wife Sarita (28) and daughters Shradha (8) and Shreya (5) &mdash; at their flat in Gajraj Society during a 30-minute ordeal in the wee hours of Thursday.

At around 2.20 am, when the Kadam family was asleep in the hall of their flat, the robbers broke in. &ldquo;When I heard someone trying to break the door, I woke up and saw people trying to come in. I rushed towards the door and shouted to my wife &ldquo;Chor aale, uthh. (Thieves have come, wake up)&rdquo;. We tried to close the door but the four robbers pushed it open,&rdquo; said Gajanan, adding that the criminals were wearing masks and jackets and had sharp knives that they used to threaten them.
He added that one of his daughters got scared and wet the bed when they threatened to kill her. &ldquo;They took my wife&rsquo;s earrings, mangalsutra and pressured us to give them more. They tied all four of us, covered us with a bed sheet, had two cups of water and stole the remaining jewelery in the house with R10,800 cash kept in my wallet,&rdquo; said Kadam.
Second: Not so much Now, they thought of trying their hand at the next flat, where Nikhil Bansode (32), a senior sales executive with a Navi Mumbai-based private firm, his brother Abhishek (27), a gym trainer in Bandra and father Abhimanyu Bansode (63), a retired administrative officer with MIDC, were asleep.
&ldquo;I was sleeping in the hall and woke up with the sound of someone banging the door. I got up to see four men coming right at me and one of them kept a knife on my neck. I held the knife and screamed. Abhishek, who was sleeping in the bedroom with our father, came out running and both of us started hitting the robbers,&rdquo; said Nikhil, adding that after a five-minute brawl, the gang of robbers ran away.
Abhishek, who then went out to see if everybody else was fine, untied the Kadam family.
&ldquo;It was good that my brother screamed and woke me up. Before they could come inside the bedroom, I came out and we shooed them away. My brother&rsquo;s hand got hurt during that,&rdquo; said Abhishek.
Case registered A case has been registered against the robbers at Shivaji Nagar police station under Sections 395 (Dacoity), 397 (Robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 457 (Lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Cop speak When Hement Shinde, Police Inspector, Shivaji Nagar police station did not respond to mid-day&rsquo;s calls, we contacted the Thane Police Commissioner.
&ldquo;We have got some clues and our teams are working on it. We will soon arrest the accused,&rdquo; said Parambir Singh, Commissioner of Police, Thane.
A crime branch senior officer, who had visited the spot, told mid-day, &ldquo;There is no CCTV footage but an auto-rickshaw driver claimed he saw a group of six people on three different motorcycles, wearing masks and jackets.&rdquo;
