Mumbai Crime: Watchman suspects extra-marital affair, attacks wife with sickle

After being married for 25 years, a 53-year-old Dindoshi resident was arrested for attacking his 45-year-old wife with a sickle on Wednesday as he suspected an extra-marital affair. She was admitted to the nearby Kandivali Shatabdi hospital and is still critical.
According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Ramesh Gaikwad, a watchman, and the victim as Kalpana Gaikwad, who used to live with her sons in Santosh Nagar area of Goregoan east. They have two sons aged 25 and 22 years who are working in private firms in the city.
The accused was an alcoholic and used to beat his wife under the influence of alcoholic.
He often used to fight with Kalpana as he suspected that she was romantically involved with someone else. After frequent fights, Kalpana threw her husband out of the house few months back and since then he had been living in his hometown Satara. He he had returned to the city on Tuesday.
