Like its earlier avatar, the publication will benefit students, and researchers of art history and archaeology. The launch by MacGregor was followed by a lecture on Fires of Faith. The presentation shed light on the symbolic meaning of fire in different religious traditions based on MacGregor&rsquo;s curatorial project, Faith and Society.

Remember the Black Horse? As mid-day completes 37 years of engaging Mumbaikars, this diarist, a self-confessed history buff, couldn&rsquo;t help but visit the archives to roll back the clock to June 1879, exactly a hundred years before the city&rsquo;s favourite tabloid was born.

As the history books tell us, Albert Sassoon, son of philanthropist David Sassoon, funded the statue of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, riding a black horse what we know today as Kala Ghoda. The statue stood at the earlier junction till 1965 after which it was shifted to Rani Baug.
On June 26, 1879, Sir Richard Temple, Governor of Bombay, unveiled the statue. It was created by Sir John Edgar Boehm and made of bronze. It rose to a height of 5.1 metres, and is currently placed near the entrance of the Veermata Jijabai Udyan (Byculla Zoo). Some say plans are under way to move the statue back to its original location. Let&rsquo;s hope it&rsquo;s before another 100 years.

The bungalow gets a makeover It&rsquo;s been a year since popular concept store, Bungalow 8 has been back at its original landmark location under the Wankhede Stadium in Churchgate. If you walk into the store that houses a curated collection of fashion labels, accessories, home decor pieces and souvenirs, you&rsquo;ll see its new look.

&ldquo;When we moved here, we decided that we will change the look &mdash; complete with new flooring, walls, furniture, product settings and the line of products. The seasonal changes are carefully designed around the mood of the collection,&rdquo; says owner Maithili Ahluwalia.

Currently, the insides of the store are restructured with inspiration from an English summer, re-imagined the desi way. The store has been covered with chattais and experimental films on nature from the 1960s are projected on the walls in cinematic size.
Mannequins have been covered with jute. The colour palette is largely monochromatic. &ldquo;With online shopping coming up in a big way, the retail business becoming more dynamic, brick and mortar stores have to offer an experience that you can&rsquo;t possibly get online,&rdquo; reasons Ahluwalia. We agree.
