On the runway with Ritu Kumar At ace designer Ritu Kumar&rsquo;s next fashion show, don&rsquo;t be surprised if you spot ethnic works by students from the Kutch-based Somaiya Kala Vidya.

Having recently completed a nine-month course in design, the students showcased their works before Kumar, who was part of the jury that picked the final collections of 11 artisan designers including weavers, ajrakh printers and bandhani artists.

Piqued, we checked it out to find ourselves gaping at an elaborate collection that would give some of our A-list fashion designers a run for their money.

Starting today (until December 20), the festival will take place at Liberty cinema and showcase over 14 of his iconic films including Ankur, Nishant, Manthan, Trikal, Sooraj Ka Saatvan Ghoda and his well-known documentary, Bharat Ek Khoj.

The filmmaker will also host master-classes over three days and be in conversation with Naseeruddin Shah and Govind Nihalani. What makes the retrospective more special is that a restored print of his 1978 award-winning film, Junoon, will be screened tonight.
The restoration is courtesy the Kapoor family (Shashi Kapoor was the producer-actor in the film). That sounds like a great gift.

Previously inspired by global flavours, the menu has now taken on a more Goan hue. Pick from the Chorizo Bao (Steamed Bao with Spicy Goan sausage filling), The Birds And The Bees (compressed boneless chicken wings with a vindaloo and teriyaki glaze) or try the dessert The Egg But No Egg, which looks like different preparations of egg but does not contain it.
A slice of Japan in the city Buzz is that Bahrain&rsquo;s popular Japanese restaurant, Ruka, brainchild of restaurateur Raj Shetty is all set to open here next week.
