“My mother, founder Tushna Dallas, wanted to bring ballet to India. Senior students will perform alongside Matisse Love and Harry Peterson, acclaimed ballet dancers from the USA. They will perform excerpts from The Nutcracker and Don Quixote,” director Khushcheher Dallas (right) revealed to us.

For our rights

There was a call for Constitutional rights on the streets of Kandivli East yesterday. The street play performances were part of Nirmik Cultural Center’s celebration of Constitution Day (November 26).

“In honour of the day, we hosted a series of performances and rallies in Damu and Kranti Nagar to spread awareness amongst the public. We will also host Nirmik: From the Margins, a screening of five documentary films by Nazaria Arts Foundation, and panel discussion over the weekend,” Rahul Bachate, from the management team, said to us.

The Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat area has caught attention in a series of photographs taken by Kolkata-based street photographer, Subhajit Das (right). Das received an award from global photography platform 1x, being less than a per cent of photographers chosen.

He recounted his visits to Dhobi Ghat to this diarist, “I always aim to capture emotions in my photos, and the reality of the human condition. I recall spending time with the washermen there, as well as their families, who treated me like a friend. My pictures show the locals’ daily lives, their natural state of being, and their hard work throughout the day.”

All bibliophiles are assembling at Thane’s biggest book exhibition, currently underway at the Exhibition Ground in Vasant Vihar, Thane West, and continuing till December 31. Organiser Pravin Shah says, “It’s heaven for bibliophiles, with discounted fiction, self-help, academics, children’s favourites, and historical reads. Books are available in English, Hindi, and Marathi.” This is the exhibition’s second outing in Thane, alongside editions held in Jaipur and Vadodara.

“The purpose is to provide older transgender persons, and other members of the community a space to upgrade their skills. As transgender individuals age, they’re unable to find proper means of employment; we’ll focus on everything from video editing to Microsoft applications and Artificial Intelligence (AI), we were told by Sudhanshu Latad, manager-advocacy.

He added, “We’ve renovated our office in Santacruz to make it more inviting for the youth.”
