Brother Jitendra Owhal said Kharat lived with her son Abhishek, who is in SSC, in Mumbai and her other son and husband are in their village. “It took half an hour to rescue my sister with the help of locals and police. We gave her water. She was put on a ventilator at KEM but didn’t survive.”

Worli resident and social worker Vivek Badekar said they conducted Kharat’s final rites on Tuesday afternoon. He said, “Kharat was the only earning member of her family. We have written to the chief minister seeking compensation for them as she died due to cyclone Tauktae.”
