His failure to get enough compensation from the state government for his five-acre land, had forced 84-year-old Dharma Patil to consume poison on January 22. Even after being kept on a ventilator and undergoing two dialysis sessions, he has not shown any sign of improvement. However, his family is of the opinion that doctors are keeping them in the dark about his health.

Speaking to mid-day, Dharma's younger son Narendra Patil said, "For the last two years, my father has been trying to approach various government authorities for compensation. The government had acquired the land for setting up a solar power plant. We were given '4.03 lakh as compensation. However, our neighbours got something between Rs 1-2 crore for the same amount of land. My father was really upset about it." "That land was our only source of livelihood. I had to relocate to Surat to earn for my family. Even my brother shifted to Amalner for the same purpose. My father was extremely unhappy about the fact that we had to move out for money," added Narendra.

On the day of the incident, while Dharma and Narendra were waiting to meet Minister of State for Energy, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, suddenly the 84-year-old started feeling giddy and collapsed at the spot. He was first rushed to St. George Hospital, but was later shifted to JJ Hospital. "My father's health is deteriorating. He has already undergone two dialysis sessions in the last 24 hours. His body has become stiff," said Narendra, adding, "Doctors are not briefing us properly about his condition. I don't know what's going to happen."
