A Level-II fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at the Navrang Compound near Mahim Fatak, close to the Sion–Mahim Link Road in Dharavi, triggering a multi-agency emergency response and disrupting suburban train services, officials said.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) received the first alert at 12:29 pm. The blaze was confined to a ground-plus-one hutment structure inside the compound, located near the railway phatak and Noor Restaurant on 60-Feet Road. Fire engines from Dadar, BKC, Bandra and Shivaji Park stations were rushed to the site, along with police personnel, 108 ambulance services and ward staff.
At 1:18 pm, the fire brigade upgraded the incident to a Level-II fire. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, and no injuries have been reported so far.
Railway operations were affected due to the fire’s proximity to the tracks. Western Railway said that several trains were regulated between Mahim and Bandra, with multiple services held up as a precaution. Harbour line services towards CSMT were also suspended from 12:43 pm, according to Western Railway control officials.
“Five trains have been regulated and are currently waiting between Mahim and Bandra stations. There have been no injuries to anyone so far,” a Western Railway spokesperson said.
Road traffic on 60-Feet Road was impacted as fire and rescue teams continued operations. Fire brigade officials and railway authorities are monitoring the situation as efforts to fully extinguish the blaze continue.
