The response to an RTI query has revealed that Bollywood actress and BJP MP Hema Malini has been allotted land costing Rs 70 crore at a prime location in Oshiwara for her dance academy. The cost of this land for Malini? Just Rs 1.75 lakh.

The information was revealed following an RTI filed by activist Anil Galgali. This comes in light of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis&rsquo; order earlier in February to revise the policy of allotting land to private trusts and offices.
Galgali said, &ldquo;The reply to my RTI application reveals that the government has allotted a 2,000 sq mt land at Oshiwara to Malini for a pittance &mdash; at the rate of R87.50 per sq mt &mdash; for her dance academy.&rdquo;
The story doesn&rsquo;t end there. &ldquo;Not only was the land given at a cheap rate, but the state government has to give a refund of Rs 8.25 lakhs to Hema Malini,&rdquo; he continued. The RTI also reveals that the land is reserved for a garden.
The response to Galgali&rsquo;s RTI application was provided by the office of the Collector, Mumbai (Suburbs). Mumbai Suburban Collector Shekhar said, &ldquo;No decision regarding the returning of money has been taken yet.&rdquo;
Previously, Malini was allotted land at Versova village of the same Andheri taluka on April 1997 for which a payment of Rs 10 lakhs was made. But since a portion of that land was affected with CRZ regulations, Malini had not undertaken any construction on the land.
In the past, Malini has refuted allegations of favouritism and land grabbing, saying she had struggled for 20 years to get the plot. &ldquo;I am getting 2,000 sq mt of land for a dance institute to be built by Natyavihar Kalakendra Charity Trust (headed by her). I will have to develop a garden (on a piece of land which is not part of the academy) and give it to the BMC,&rdquo; she had earlier said.
