The parents of Sahil Wakode, the 20-year-old Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) student who was found dead in his hostel room on September 18 — after allegedly using ChatGPT in an exam, have stated that they were shocked to get the sudden call about their only son’s death and sought an investigation and the immediate arrest of those named in the FIR.
The deceased’s father, Ravindra Wakode, speaking to the media at the Crime Branch office in Bandra West, said, “We have mentioned that [IIT-B faculty] Shireesh Kedare and Prof Suryanarayana Doolla were involved in harassment that our son had to face [after the exam]. Our son had to hear casteist remarks where he was told that he belonged to a lower caste.”
