In a heartwarming gesture by an NGO in Andheri, a rock python was safely rescued after it mistakenly entered a bike. On the evening of 23rd July, an NGO named Aasha The Hope For Animals Welfare Trust received a rescue call on their helpline from a resident of SEEPZ, Andheri East.

The caller mentioned that he had spotted a small snake inside the mudguard of his bike. As soon as the members of the NGO, Navin Solanki and his son Karan, were informed about the snake, they immediately rushed to the location.

One of the members, Karan Solanki, while addressing the instance, said that, “After carefully checking, we found a beautiful Indian rock python resting inside the mudguard. We safely rescued the snake and informed the concerned forest range and round officers. The python was later released into its natural habitat.”

With the monsoon in full swing, reptiles such as snakes, lizards, and turtles often venture into urban areas in search of dry and safe hiding spots, and that is why this beautiful reptile got inside the bike.

Considering the fact that monsoon is the breeding and hatching season for most reptiles in India. During this time, small Indian Rock Pythons and other young reptiles often hide in places like bikes, cars, scooters, rooftops, etc. The reptiles look for safe places to protect themselves from heavy rain and predators.

Navin Solanki, the founder and trustee of the Aasha—The Hope for Animals Welfare Trust, Andheri, after safely rescuing the baby rock python, urged the citizens not to panic when they encounter wildlife. Instead of panicking, report such incidents to trained professionals.

He further stated that, “If you come across any wildlife in need of rescue, please contact our NGO’s helpline at 9987929223 or reach out to the Maharashtra Forest Department’s 24/7 helpline at 1926.”
