Nehru Nagar police in Kurla have registered a case of assault against a schoolteacher for caning a Std III student. The eight-year-old girl was allegedly caned during extra lectures for not jotting down points dictated in the class. Police officials said the case was registered on Monday around 10 pm.

Speaking to mid-day Senior Inspector Suresh Bhavar from Nehru Nagar police station said, “The official school timing is till 6 pm, and the extra classes are held for academically weak students from 6 pm to 8 pm. Apparently, eleven students were caned by a teacher.
