The recently inaugurated Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, has registered a strong ridership performance throughout the month of October. The increasing number of ridership throughout the month indicates a growing commuter confidence and the rising popularity of the city’s underground metro system.

According to official data, the Aqua Line carried a total of 3,863,741 passengers between October 1 and October 31, showcasing consistent daily commuter traffic on the route connecting suburbs to South Mumbai.

As per the reports, the Mumbai Metro Line 3 from October 9 to 31 recorded 3,333,684 commuters, reflecting a sharp rise following the initial days of operation.

While the average weekday ridership stood at 141,024 passengers, the much-anticipated Mumbai Metro Line 3 now seems to be a very strong choice for commuters travelling across the city.

The highest single-day ridership in October reached 182,461, marking a new milestone for the Aqua Line, as per the reports.

The Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3, often referred to as Mumbai’s first fully underground metro route, connects key business districts, residential zones, and transit points, including Colaba, Bandra, and SEEPZ.

The underground corridor has been designed to ease pressure on the city’s overburdened road and rail networks, offering faster, more efficient, and eco-friendly connectivity across South and North Mumbai.

The Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 project spans approximately 33.5 kilometres with 27 stations. This project represents one of the largest urban transport infrastructure developments in Mumbai’s history.

WhatsApp-based ticketing system

Earlier, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) launched WhatsApp-based ticketing for commuters of Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, between Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai and Aarey JVLR in the north-western part of the metropolis, to ensure hassle-free ticket booking and travelling for the commuters.

Officials have attributed this steady increase to the line’s seamless connectivity, reduced travel time, and comfortable commuting experience. With these encouraging figures, Mumbai Metro Line 3 continues to strengthen the city’s public transport network and ease road congestion across major corridors.

Passengers will have to simply send "Hi" to ‪+91 98730 16836‬ or scan the QR code displayed at stations to generate QR-based WhatsApp tickets instantly through a simple conversational interface.
