Mumbai Police have announced traffic restrictions near the Mumbai airport as work begins on installing a large aquarium tank close to the General Aviation Terminal at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Gate No. 8 in Santacruz (East), officials said.
The installation will take place on November 19 and 20, 2025, they said.

To ensure road safety and maintain smooth traffic movement, the police have introduced temporary road closures and diversions.

"Any person violating this order shall be liable for legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and other applicable laws," the police said.
Meanwhile, earlier, in a bid to reduce congestion, the Mumbai Traffic Police (western suburbs division) had imposed a three-month experimental no-parking zone along a key stretch in the Sahar Traffic Division, starting November 15.
The order comes into place following repeated complaints of illegal and irregular parking near the Sahar Village Aqua Metro Signal.
The restricted stretch covers the lane adjoining Vaibhav Cooperative Housing Society, extending from the JB Nagar–Marol Pipeline Road junction up to the Sahar Village Aqua Metro signal. Officers said the narrow width of the road and the high volume of vehicles make the area particularly vulnerable to traffic blockages and potential accidents.
“Haphazard parking here has long inconvenienced citizens and increased the risk of mishaps. This temporary measure is essential for smooth traffic flow and overall public safety,” the traffic police stated in a press release, adding that the initiative is in line with the division’s broader efforts to regulate movement in congested suburban corridors.
The directive draws authority from the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and earlier state government resolutions issued in 1998 and 1996. The move mirrors previous short-term interventions, including a 30-day trial conducted in September 2019 to manage peak-hour congestion in the area.
The notification stated that the no-parking order will remain in force till February 15, 2026, unless modified or withdrawn. Enforcement teams will undertake regular patrols, and violators may face fines and towing as per standard traffic regulations.
The traffic police have appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate with personnel and avoid parking along the designated stretch.
