In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 individuals and left many injured, Mumbai Police have identified at least 17 Pakistani nationals residing in the city. As per ANI reports, these individuals have now been issued exit permits to leave the country, following directives from the central government.
This move targets Pakistani nationals who had entered India on short-term and tourist visas. Officials confirmed that exit permits are being enforced as part of tightened security measures prompted by the devastating terrorist assault in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region.
In parallel developments, authorities report that a total of 537 Pakistani nationals have exited India via the Attari border over the past three days. As per ANI, this follows the expiry of the short-term visa deadline on Sunday. Speaking to ANI, Arun Pal, a protocol officer at the Attari border, said that 850 Indian nationals have returned to India during the same period. On Sunday alone, 237 Pakistani nationals crossed back to their country, while 116 Indian citizens came home.
Meanwhile, ANI reports that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has provided Delhi Police with a list containing the names of approximately 5,000 Pakistani nationals currently residing in the capital. The special branch has been tasked with verifying and ensuring compliance with the government’s order that these individuals return home unless exempt.
The Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) has shared the relevant data with the Delhi Police, which is now coordinating district-level verification efforts. It is clarified that Pakistani nationals holding Long-Term Visas (LTVs), particularly those from minority communities like Hindus, are exempted from this mass exit directive.
On Friday, the Indian government officially revoked all categories of visas issued to Pakistani citizens with immediate effect, except for diplomatic, official, and long-term visas.
The recent Pahalgam terror attack, which took place near the scenic Baisaran meadow around 2 pm on April 22, has been described as one of the most horrific in the region since the 2019 Pulwama incident, where 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives. The brutality of the Pahalgam attack, which also claimed the life of a Nepalese national, has reignited public outrage and led to widespread protests across India, with citizens demanding strong retaliatory measures against Pakistan.
