The water levels in lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai have risen following heavy rainfall in their catchment areas. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the combined stock in the seven reservoirs that provide water to the city now stands at 41.17 per cent or 5,95,876 mm on Tuesday.
Among the individual lakes, Bhatsa holds the highest stock with 2,49,771 ML, followed by Upper Vaitarna with 1,13,052 ML, and Middle Vaitarna at 86,545 ML.
Modak Sagar and Tansa currently store 68,955 ML and 62,615 ML, respectively, while the smaller lakes Vehar and Tulsi have 11,718 ML and 3,220 ML in storage. The percentage of useful content is the highest in Modak Sagar at 53.48 per cent, followed by Upper Vaitarna at 49.79 per cent, and Vehar at 42.31 per cent.
Among the major lakes, Middle Vaitarna registered the highest rainfall at 43 mm in the past 24 hours.
Middle Vaitarna’s water level rose by 0.63 metres in the past 24 hours, the highest among all reservoirs. Tansa saw a rise of 0.06 metres, while Bhatsa gained 0.30 metres. Tulsi, however, saw a minor drop of 0.01 metres, and the remaining reservoirs showed marginal or no change, the BMC data revealed.

Mumbai weather update: Expect light to moderate rainfall today
Mumbai is expected to witness a partly cloudy sky with intermittent light to moderate rainfall over the city and suburbs on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest Mumbai weather update at 8 am.
In the 24-hour period starting 8 am Monday, the island city recorded an average rainfall of 2 mm while the eastern and western suburbs received 11 mm and 10 mm of rain, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said a high tide of 4.03 metres is expected at 4.26 pm and of 3.27 metres at 4.43 am on Wednesday. The city is also likely to witness a low tide of 1.65 metres at 10.44 pm.
