Fake photos claiming to be from ‘flooded’ Mumbai airport circulating on social media show tractors being used; sources say video from previous year of Chennai airport
Tractors have not been in use at the Mumbai airport since 2010
With the city experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall in the past few days, multiple flight operations at the Mumbai airport have been affected due to low visibility. Apart from go-arounds, diversions, and delays, multiple claims of the airport flooding have surfaced on social media.
A video which has been widely circulated shows the airport’s taxiway completely flooded, with workers trudging around an aircraft in the water. The said video has been circulating with captions insinuating that the video is of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

Sources from the airport, however, told mid-day that no such flooding has occurred and that the airport is still operating. Sources also say that the video which is circulating might be from previous years of flooded Chennai airport, though this has not been confirmed.
A particular airport signboard seen inundated in the video is also not of the Mumbai airport. Another important point raised by the airport source was that the Mumbai airport had stopped using tractors since almost 2010 and only uses tugs, but the viral video shows passenger staircases being pulled by tractors.
According to information received by mid-day, the airport has seen 24 go-arounds since early Tuesday morning. Furthermore, the airport witnessed 11 diversions and multiple flight delays on Tuesday.
