With the southwest monsoon yet to arrive in Mumbai, the city has so far recorded the least number of rain days in the month of June in at least a decade — just one, June 3, when pre-monsoon showers were seen — according to data available with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon usually arrives in Mumbai by June 10 or 11.
From 2015 to 2024, between 13 and 27 rainy days were recorded in June. In 2021, there were 27 rainy days in June, more than 2020’s 22 days and 2024’s 21 days, as per the records of the Santacruz weather station. In contrast, this year, Mumbai received pre-monsoon showers on June 3, with 12.9 mm recorded at the Santacruz observatory, whose rainfall readings are considered the official figures for Mumbai.
