A pumping station bang in the middle of the road on the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) is a potential danger to motorists at night.

Despite the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) writing to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), asking it to shift the structure, the latter has shown apathy.
The structure is near the median on the SCLR just 100 metres away from the Kurla-end of the double-decker flyover. Due to this pump, traffic jams are a regular feature on the road. MMRDA even had to widen the road here. Still, logjams occur during the evening peak hours.
A more serious concern is that at night, when the empty stretch witnesses speeding vehicles, motorists may not be able to see it. Since there is no radium indicator or reflector on the structure, there is a high possibility that a fast-moving car or motorcycle rams into it. It is especially difficult to spot in the dark for those coming from Chembur and going towards Santacruz.
Official speak An MMRDA official said, &ldquo;We have been constantly telling MHADA to shift the pumping station which is near the median on the westbound stretch of SCLR at the Kurla end. But till date nothing has been done.&rdquo;
MMRDA Joint Project Director Dilip Kawathkar confirmed this, saying, &ldquo;We have sent them reminders at regular intervals and we hope they shift the structure at the earliest.&rdquo;
It should be noted that the SCLR was thrown open to the public more than six months ago, and much before the inauguration, MMRDA had written to MHADA to relocate the pumping station. But the housing body is seemingly oblivious to the danger it poses for citizens. Officials from MHADA were unavailable for comment.
