As the exam season begins at Mumbai University and its affiliated colleges; goof-ups have begun to surface. In the ongoing examination of Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM), on Saturday, students were given wrong question papers. Interestingly, the issue was about marks and not the question so it took little time to realize that instead of 75 marks the paper is only of 50 marks. Students had already begun to write answers by then. The question-paper was later changed by the varsity.

On Saturday, third year students of Bachelor of Mass Media (Journalism) were appearing for the 'Business and Magazine Journalism' paper. The two-hour exam that had started as per the scheduled time at 3 pm was stopped in between and was restarted again at 3.45pm with the correct question paper.
"We had begun to answer question already and suddenly at around 3.20pm we were told to stop writing and told that the question paper is incorrect. We were first shocked because questions did not appear to be from out of syllabus. We then realized that it is only of 50 marks instead of 75 marks," said a student who appeared for the examination in a suburban college.
Another student who appeared for the examination at Lala Lajpatrai College, said, "The issue might not seem really big but at that time it resulted in panic. If you are told in the middle of writing the paper that this is not the one you are supposed to appear for it amounts to stress.&rdquo;
A faculty member from National College, said, "As we realized the goof-up we immediately informed the varsity but they had already begun damage control as they received the information. Soon another paper was sent. But it does add pressure on the students as for them examination had already started."
The paper was conducted at 13 centers and 848 students appeared. A statement released by MU late evening on Saturday, regarding the goof-up states, "There were total 418 examinations that were being conducted by MU. Among those total 305 examinations were in the afternoon slot, BMM examination was one of it. Paper setters had submitted three sets of question papers in handwritten format to the examination section. The question paper was then transferred to digital format and stored on CD. On the day of the examination, B paper set was selected and was uploaded for exam centers to access. However when the examination began, first query was received from Ruia College over a telephone call after it had already started. Then the question paper was reviewed and it was found that the paper-setter had set question paper only of 50 marks. After realizing it, a question paper from the remaining two options was selected immediately, following confirmation that it was of appropriate marks. It was then uploaded on the server for exam centers to access and distribute it to students. The examination began at 3.45pm and students were given adequate time."
