Mumbai residents in parts of five civic wards will experience low-pressure or suspended water supply for nearly two days starting January 20, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation undertakes critical pipeline connection work linked to the Metro Line 7A project.
According to the civic body, the work will be carried out from 9 am on Tuesday, January 20, to 5 am on Thursday, January 22, 2026, spanning a total of 44 hours. During this period, water supply will either be reduced or completely shut in parts of G North, K East, S, H East and N wards, with changes in regular supply timings.
Reason for the shutdown
The disruption is due to cross-connection work on a diverted section of the 2,400 mm diameter Upper Vaitarna main water pipeline in the K East Ward. The pipeline had to be diverted to facilitate construction work for the MMRDA’s Metro Line 7A project. The BMC will now carry out the final connection work on this diverted stretch.

S Ward (Bhandup West, Vikhroli West, Kanjurmarg West):
Multiple areas will receive low-pressure supply, while localities such as Moraji Nagar, Gautam Nagar, Jaybhim Nagar and BEST Nagar will face a complete shutdown during scheduled hours.

BMC appeal
The BMC has urged residents in the affected wards to store sufficient water in advance and use water sparingly during the repair period. As a precautionary measure, citizens have also been advised to boil and filter drinking water for the next few days.
The civic administration has appealed for public cooperation while the essential infrastructure work is completed.
