Mumbai weather update: City sees light to moderate showers; IMD predicts more rain through the day

Mumbai woke up to light to moderate showers and cloudy skies on Friday morning, following intermittent rainfall through the night that brought some respite from the recent spell of humid weather.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with chances of moderate rain or thunderstorms during the day. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may drop to about 25 degrees Celsius, keeping conditions relatively pleasant.


The IMD added that similar weather conditions are likely to persist over the next 24 hours, with occasional spells of rainfall expected in parts of the city and suburbs.



City's AQI in 'good' category

On October 31, the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality in the 'good' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 66 at 9.05 AM.

As per the SAMEER app dashboard, many areas across Mumbai showed 'good' AQI. Colaba, Sewri, Borivali, Bhandup and Vile Parle recorded 'good' air quality, with an AQI of 48, 76, 87, 42 and 87, respectively.

Meanwhile, Powai, Malad, Andheri and Byculla recorded 'good' air quality, with an AQI of 58, 91, 61 and 49, respectively.

According to data from the SAMEER app, Navi Mumbai recorded air quality in the 'good' category with an AQI of 61, while Thane registered a 'good' AQI of 55.

The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered 'good', 100 to 200 'moderate', 200 to 300 'poor', 300 to 400 'very poor' and from 400 to 500 or above 'severe'.

Meanwhile, Delhi air quality showed a slight improvement on Friday morning but still remained in the "poor" category, with many areas experiencing clearer skies and better visibility compared to recent days.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the national capital recorded an AQI of 268, categorised as 'poor', as of 8 am on Friday. Yesterday, at the same time, the city's air quality was in the 'very poor' category, as the AQI recorded at 8 am was 352.

Several key monitoring stations also recorded improvement in the air quality. Anand Vihar reported an AQI of 282, Aya Nagar 237, Burari Crossing 249, DTU 206, Dwarka Sector-8 288, IGI Airport 211, IHBAS Dilshad Garden 284, ITO 280, JLN Stadium 255, Nehru Nagar 270, Okhla Phase 2 255, Punjabi Bagh 293 and Patparganj 256 - all categorised as 'poor'.
