The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted light rains for Mumbai and issued a yellow alert for adjoining Thane and Palghar districts.

In a weather bulletin, the IMD predicted thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places in Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra.


A similar alert was issued for several parts of Maharashtra including Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed and nearby districts.



Meanwhile, Mumbai residents woke up to a cloudy, haze-filled morning on Thursday, with a thin layer of fog reported in some areas on Thursday.

The IMD forecast earlier indicated a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers likely through the day.

In its nowcast warning issued at 7:20 am, the IMD said light to moderate rain is very likely over Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, Nashik, Satara, and Nanded districts in the next three hours.

Mumbai’s maximum temperature is expected to hover around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may drop to 25 degrees Celsius, the weather department said.

Meanwhile, On October 30, the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality in the 'good' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 63 at 9.05 AM.

As per the SAMEER app dashboard, many areas across Mumbai showed 'good' AQI. Colaba, Worli, Borivali, Bhandup and Vile Parle recorded 'good' air quality, with an AQI of 41, 63, 48, 57 and 74, respectively.

Meanwhile, Powai, Malad, Andheri and Byculla recorded 'good' air quality, with an AQI of 61, 80, 64 and 42, respectively.

According to data from the SAMEER app, Navi Mumbai recorded air quality in the 'good' category with an AQI of 56, while Thane registered a 'good' AQI of 64.

The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered 'good', 100 to 200 'moderate', 200 to 300 'poor', 300 to 400 'very poor' and from 400 to 500 or above 'severe'.

Meanwhile, Delhi woke up to a hazy morning on Thursday, with the city's air quality remaining in the 'very poor' category at 352, as of 8 am.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the monitoring station at Anand Vihar reported an AQI of 408 and Vivek Vihar 415, categorised as 'Severe' air quality, as of 8 am. Meanwhile, several monitoring stations reported 'very poor' air quality.
