One person sustained injuries after a tanker transporting 32,000 litres of boiler oil crashed into a stationary truck in Maharashtra's Thane city in the wee hours of Saturday, a civic official said, reported news agency PTI.
There was no report of an oil spill in the accident that occurred in the Waghbil area on Ghodbundar Road around 4.20 am, he said.
"The accident-hit oil tanker has been shifted to the side of the road. One person has been seriously injured," said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the disaster management cell of Thane Municipal Corporation, reported PTI.
According to the police, the tanker was en route to Sinnar from Sewri when the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a stationary truck loaded with 10 tonnes of wood, which was parked on the road.
The official said the tanker driver was trapped in the cabin due to impact and was extricated by the rescue teams and rushed to a hospital, reported PTI.
The traffic on the busy Ghodbunder Road was affected for about 40 minutes due to the accident, he said.
Four killed as tanker hits car on Mumbai-Agra highway in Nashik district
In another incident, four persons were killed when a tanker hit their car on the Mumbai-Agra national highway in Maharashtra's Nashik district, an official said on Friday, reported PTI.
The accident took place around 1 pm on Thursday near Mundhegaon Shivar on the busy carriageway, said the official, reported PTI.
Three members of a family from Andheri in Mumbai were returning home in a car after attending a Guru Purnima programme at Mauli Baba Ramdas Mutt in Shenwad.
A tanker carrying a chemical substance crashed into the car, killing the trio and their driver at the scene. The tanker overturned due to impact, the official said.
The victims have been identified as Nityanand Sawant (62), Vidya Sawant (65), Veena Sawant (68) and car driver Dattaram Ambale (42), also a resident of Andheri in Mumbai. Their bodies were removed with the help of a crane from the mangled wreckage of the car, the official said, reported PTI.
The accident also affected the traffic movement on the busy national highway for some time, he said, adding the tanker driver has been arrested.
