The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has rescued 235 lost or runaway children and reunited them with their families in two months under its Operation Nanhe Farishte initiative. The Central Railway RPF has also garnered praise for saving the lives of 12 passengers in April and May under Operation Jeevan Raksha.
Operation Nanhe Farishte
Under Operation Nanhe Farishte, the RPF has been working in close coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP), railway staff, and child welfare organisations such as Childline, to trace and rescue lost or runaway children.
In the months of April and May, the RPF teams rescued 235 children – a marked increase from 149 children rescued during the same period last year.
In a press release, RPF said these children often arrive at railway stations owing to family disputes or in search of better opportunities or simply because they were lured by the glamour of city life.
The RPF personnel also counsel the rescued children before facilitating their safe return home.
Operation Jeevan Raksha
Under Operation Jeevan Raksha, the RPF teams have saved the lives of 9 men and three women in April and May— up from seven persons (five men and two women) in the corresponding period of 2024.
In most of these cases, passengers were found to be in danger while attempting to board or alight moving trains.
The RPF press release further stated that it is committed to protecting lives under the values of ‘Suraksha (Security), Satarkta (Alertness), and Seva (Service)’.
