A company linked to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's son Parth Pawar has sought 15 more days to respond to a notice directing it to pay Rs 21 crore towards stamp duty in a Pune land deal case, reported news agency PTI.

Amadea Enterprises LLP, in which Parth Pawar is a majority partner, approached the Inspector General of Registration's office, on the last day of its notice expiry on Monday, which had granted the firm seven days to respond.

"A team of lawyers approached the IGR office with an authority letter to represent the firm and its partner, Digvijay Patil, and submitted an application seeking extension of 15 more days to respond to the notice directing the firm to pay Rs 21 crore as stamp duty," a senior IGR office said, reported PTI.

The application has been accepted and the decision to grant an extension will be taken by senior officials, he added, reported PTI.

The Rs 300-crore deal to sell a 40-acre land parcel in the prime Mundhwa area to the firm came under scrutiny after it was found that the land belongs to the government and the firm was exempted from paying the stamp duty.

Following the controversy, an offence was registered against Digvijay Patil and others, including a government official. Parth Pawar was not named in the FIR.

Amid a political firestorm, Ajit Pawar announced that the Pune land deal would be scrapped.

An inquiry by the IGR office had indicted Patil, Shital Tejwani, who held the power of attorney, and sub-registrar Ravindra Taru, who facilitated the sale deed of the land for irregularities.

"I have no connection, will not tolerate any wrongdoing": Ajit Pawar on Pune land deal

Earlier, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had said that he has no connection with the alleged multi-crore land deal in Pune involving his son, Parth Pawar.

Emphasising transparency and accountability, Pawar said he "will never support anyone flouting rules," adding that even those close to him are not exempt from following due process, reported news agency ANI.

His reaction followed the Maharashtra government's initiation of a high-level inquiry into the alleged land scam.

"I only want to say that whatever reports are being run are not known to me. I have no connection with the issue. I had already clarified that I will not tolerate any wrongdoing. I will analyse the details of the case personally," Ajit Pawar told reporters.

"I have never called any officer to benefit any of our relatives or any party worker. If anyone is doing wrong or against the set norms, I will never support them. I always abide by the rules and regulations. CM should definitely inquire into the matter and find the truth behind it. All the rules should be followed, and no one should flout the rules. Even those close to me are not allowed to surpass the rules," he added, reported ANI.
