To generate revenue along the Mumbai Pune Expressway, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has invited tenders to lease out its built-up premises measuring 3,153 sq mt on a 8,729 sq mt plot.
Along with this, an adjacent open plot will also be up for rent for commercial purposes. It has been reported that the coffers of MSRDC are almost bare.
Confirming the same, an MSRDC official, said, on condition of anonymity, &ldquo;The main aim behind leasing out our built-up premises along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is to generate revenue that can help finance future projects.&rdquo;
Even though the bids will be open till December 29, a pre-bid meeting to decide what can come up on the stretch will be held on December 18.
Backlog from the past During the tenure of the Congress-NCP government in the state, the MSRDC, which was headed by the NCP, had alleged that CM Prithiviraj Chavan did not clear pending MSRDC projects, including augmentation of old Mumbai Mumbai Pune Highway and the water transport project on the east and west coast of Mumbai.
Back then, Chavan had insisted MSRDC first look into the availability of funds to implement the projects. The only revenue the MSRDC earns is through upfront payment from toll collection contracts.
