Collapse injured a 61-year-old who was crossing lane on his scooter, society did not put safety nets, did it restrict access as parapet underwent repairs
The collapse happened on June 17 when Khushrow Boyce was returning from Dadyseth bungalow
The civic body is going to issue a show-cause notice to the Grand Paradi building at Kemps Corner after a part of its parapet collapsed on a 61-year-old man and broke his ribs. The seriously injured man is being treated for a hand fracture and broken ribs. On the other hand, a resident has sent a legal notice to the society over the incident and serious lapses in security.
On June 17, when Khushrow Boyce was crossing the lane next to Grand Paradi on his scooter, a part of the parapet which was under repair fell on him. Boyce is left with his ribs broken and a hand fractured, while his scooter was completely crushed. He has been admitted to Breach Candy hospital.

The society, home to some of the richest businessmen, comprises 14 row houses and three 26-storey towers. The private road which Boyce was crossing leads to the Dadyseth bungalow.
The civic body had issued a notice to the society to repair the parapet which was in a ruinous condition and likely to collapse. A resident said, “Repair work had started in the third week of May. One of the residents pointed out that the pathway should be closed and safety nets fixed, but he was ignored.” He added, “The person survives but the incident was so serious that a part of the slab had to be cut to remove his scooter. Many women and children use the same path for walks but the society didn’t put any restrictions on movement.”
Circular after collapse
The society issued a circular putting temporary restrictions only on June 18, after the collapse. The circular asked residents to not use the road and prevent children from accessing it while repairs are in progress.
Meanwhile, Hilla Dadyseth, who resides in the bungalow, sent a legal notice to the society regarding the absence of safety nets and severe injuries to Boyce. Boyce was returning from the bungalow after repairing Dadyseth’s television.
A civic official from D ward told mid-day, “The permission for repairs was given to the society by the building proposal department under relevant terms and conditions. The society has to take all safety precautions before starting such repair work.” Prashant Gaikwad, assistant commissioner, D ward, said, “We are sending the society a show-cause notice regarding the incident. Action will be taken accordingly after their reply.”
