On Sunday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray visited his cousin, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, to extend birthday wishes on his 65th birthday.

Raj travelled from his Dadar residence, Shivteerth, to Matoshree, Uddhav’s iconic home in Bandra.

Uddhav, accompanied by party MP Sanjay Raut, welcomed Raj at the entrance of the bungalow, a well-known political landmark in Mumbai.

At his joint rally with Raj in Mumbai on July 5, Uddhav Thackeray had said he and the MNS chief have come together to stay together

At the "victory" rally, held to celebrate the rollback of the Hindi language GRs (resolutions) by the BJP-led government, the cousins shared a political stage for the first time in almost two decades, on the issue of Marathi identity and "imposition" of the Hindi language.

Earlier on July 5, at the Marathi Vijay Diwas programme held at NSCI Dome in Worli, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray delivered a sharp and emotionally charged speech, emphasising Marathi unity and sending a powerful political message alongside his cousin, MNS chief Raj Thackeray.

“The Thackeray cousins have come together, and now, we will stay united,” said Uddhav, adding that “More than what we say in our speeches, our togetherness is the real message.” He expressed gratitude to everyone present, saying, “I thank all those who came forward for the Marathi language and the Marathi people.”

After two decades, the estranged Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, shared the public stage and jointly held a "mega victory gathering" in Mumbai to celebrate the Maharashtra government's rollback of the three-language policy in primary schools.

The last time the two cousins shared the stage was during the election campaign of the Malvan assembly bypoll in 2005 after former chief minister Narayan Rane had quit the undivided Shiv Sena. Raj Thackeray quit the Shiv Sena shortly in the same year and floated the MNS in 2006.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS had jointly organised the "victory" gathering at the NSCI Dome in central Mumbai's Worli, which also happened to be in the assembly constituency of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray.
