After Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was sentenced five years prison following his infamous 2002 hit-n-run case, we look at other similar cases&nbsp;which involved high-profile persons ran&nbsp;over people with their vehicles.
Alistair Pereira
In November 2006, son of a businessman Alistair Pereira lost control of his Toyota Corolla on Carter Road and drove onto a group of construction workers sleeping on the pavement, killing seven people and injuring six. However, his trial got over within a week and he was convicted and sentenced to only six months in prison. But, after hearing the defence and the prosecution's arguments, the High Court convicted Pereira for the serious offence of culpable homicide and sentenced him to three years in prison.
Puru Raaj Kumar
The elder son of yesteryear star, the late actor Raaj Kumar, Puru Raajkumar was arrested in a hit-and-run case in Bandra. Puru ran over eight people sleeping on a pavement in Bandra in December 1993 out of which three died and the others were seriously injured. He is said to have paid a fine initially and the matter was settled out of court.

Nooriya Haveliwala
The Colaba resident Nooriya Haveliwala, on January 30, 2010, under the influence of alcohol, rammed her SUV into a taxi and a police car at Marine Lines, killing a motorcyclist and a sub-inspector. A special court convicted her of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced her to five years in prison. Nooriya has appealed against the verdict is currently out on bail.

Ravindra Mhatre
Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackerays personal assistant Ravindra Mhatre mowed down two elderly women and injured two others at Vile Parle in March 2005. Mhatre knocked these four persons on the Western Express Highway when he lost control over his Ford Ikon car which was registered in Thane. Currently, a Thane court has acquitted Mhatre in the car registration case.
Manish Khatau
Industrialist Mahendra Khatau&rsquo;s son Manish Khatau crashed his speeding Ford Ikon car into a police barricade along Marine Drive. Constable Jitendra Rokde was seriously injured in the accident. Manish paid Rs 6 lakh as compensation to the constable, Jitendra Rokhade, on humanitarian grounds and six year after the incident, the Khatau scion was acquitted.
Sanjeev Nanda
Sanjeev Nanda, the grandson of Admiral SM Nanda, ran his BMW over six people, including three Delhi Police officers in 1999. Two constables and two others died on the spot, and another policeman and a bystander sucumbed in hospital. After the 1999 trial acquitted him, there was a re-trial in 2008 after the media outrage forced, he was consequently found guilty of killing the six people. The Supreme Court in 2012 reduced his prison sentence to the two years, added a substantial penalty, and sentenced him to do community service for two years.

Neel Chatterjee
Neel Chatterjee, a former senior executive of Standard Chartered Bank allegedly killed Ramakant Dhuri, a security guard, near Prabhadevi in 2006. According to the police, Chatterjee lost control of his Mercedes sports car and crashed into Dhuri, who died while being moved to the hospital. He was susequently charged with rash and negligent driving resulting in death. Currently his case has been disposed by the Bhoiwada court.
