The Taj Mahal Hotel, which was under siege on 26/11 is yet to separate its sprinkler system and main water supply to enable efficient fire-fighting.

The Taj heritage wing, the ground floor and the first floor need work. Also, a year ago, our officers had asked them to separate pumps linked to sprinklers and main pump. They are yet to do it. We will give them the hotel license only when they fulfill our recommendations".u00a0 According to another senior fire officer, the basement of the Taj Mahal Hotel doesn't have sprinklers and the ventilation is inadequate both concerns came to fore when a fire broke out at the Taj Mahal basement in June 2009. "Taj is paying more attention towards the renovation work and hardly paying attention to its fire fighting system," said a senior fire official. Uday Tatkare, chief fire officer, said, "Our fire officers have inspected the building and a detailed report has been sent to concerned officials. Earlier too, a few recommendations were given to the Taj officials. They didn't follow them." The Other Side Taj senior official The Taj Mahal Palace and Tower is working with the fire department to ensure that all safety guidelines and norms are complied with, so as to ensure the highest standard of service and safety to our guests. The heritage wing of the hotel is under renovation and therefore work in many quarters is till under progress
