If you want to run a school in the limits of Thane Municipal Corporation, you have to just pay Rs 5,000 bribe to the education department officials of TMC, claims Javed Akhtar Khan, Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader and a resident of Mumbra.

Khan in March 2015 filed a Right to Information Act at the education department and received information that around 59 schools in Mumbra-Kalwa-Kausa and Diva are running illegally without permission from the Thane Municipal Corporation.

"When I asked the authorities as to how the schools are running illegally for more than 6 years, the officials had no answer to the question and kept silent. But an official on condition of anonymity said that every school pays Rs 5,000 as monthly bribe to the authorities," said Khan.

Getting tensed and concerned about the education and future of the students, Khan further complained about the illegality to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Education Minister Vinod Tawde to take some strict action, but received a dull response.
