In the past 24 hours, the catchment areas of the seven lakes that supply drinking water to Mumbai have received only 1 mm of rainfall -- in the catchment area of the Tansa lake. All other lakes have seen no rainfall.
This has depleted the water stock in Mumbai's lakes further, which is now at 10.07 per cent, or 14,57,13 million litres. At full capacity, the lakes hold 14,47,363 million litres of water.
However, BMC has indicated that there is no cause for concern yet, as this is the beginning of the monsoon season. Last year on the same day, the lakes had only 5.81 per cent water, or 84,155 million litres.
