Delhi CM urges central government to relax vaccination age limit, allow door-to-door campaign

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday informed 65 per cent of COVID-19 patients in Delhi are below 45 years of age and urged the Centre to lift the age limit in the vaccination process.
“Delhi government is ready to conduct a door-to-door campaign to vaccinate people. At least 65 per cent of patients in Delhi are below 45 years of age. How will coronavirus stop when 65 per cent of the patients are not eligible for vaccination,” Kejriwal said at a press briefing.

Pointing out that COVID-19 infection is spreading faster despite the vaccination drive, he said, “We must vaccinate faster than the spread of the virus.”
Delhi, which recorded 10,732 new cases in the past 24 hours — the highest ever since the pandemic began, currently has 28,773 active infections. Kejriwal warned, “The fourth wave is more dangerous than the previous wave.” The CM said his government does not want to impose lockdown but such a situation may arise if there is a rush to the hospitals and beds are unavailable for serious patients. “We need your cooperation.”
He asked people to remain in home isolation if infected with the virus instead of rushing to hospitals, saying the most important thing is that hospital beds are kept vacant for serious patients. Shortage in U’khand
Officials halted vaccination at 178 vaccination centres in four districts of Uttarakhand on Saturday after running out of vaccines. The centres were reopened after fresh stock were sourced on Sunday. “Today, the state got a stock of 1.38 lakh vaccines, it will be available for two to three days depending on the need of the state,” State Immunisation Officer Dr Kuldeep Singh Martolia said.

Congress party’s Srivilliputhur constituency candidate in the April 6 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, P S W Madhava Rao, died on Sunday due to COVID-19, his family said. While polls were held on April 6, the counting of votes is scheduled on May 2 and in case the Congress nominee emerged victorious, Srivilliputhur segment would face a bypoll later.
