Yesteryear film actress Achala Sachdev (88) passed away on Sunday evening at Poona Hospital after a prolonged illness. The veteran actress was living in her Konark Nagar flat at Bund Garden Road and was bedridden since the past seven months after fracturing a leg in a fall at her home, followed by a brain infraction.
The last rites will be performed today at Vaikunth at 5.30pm after her son Jytoin, who is in the US, reaches the city. She donated her home to the Jan Seva Foundation and was a donor to various organisations, including HV Desai Eye Hospital.
Sachdev’s doctor Dr Vinod Shah said she passed away due to respiratory failure.
“She was also suffering from bronchial asthma since the past 25 years,” Shah said.
Born in Peshawar, she acted in over 130 films, including the 1965 blockbuster Waqt. Other memorable movies include Prem Pujari, Mera Naam Joker, Hare Rama Hare Krishna and Andaz.
She also played short roles in Na Tum Jaano Na Hum (2002), Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001) and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995).u00a0
