Mumbai resident claims he was overcharged without any intimation
Travel broadens the mind, but these days it also considerably lightens your purse. More so in some cases than in others. Mumbai-resident Cyrus Karanjia booked four tickets for Rs 20,000 through a popular travel portal, but ended up paying seven thousand more. Cyrus was planning to travel to Trivandrum.
Raw deal: A webshot of the travel portal.
"I had booked four tickets for 19 November 2010 (Trivandrum - Mumbai). The flight fare reflected per ticket at the time of booking was Rs 5,042. Hence the cost for four tickets should have amounted to Rs 20,168. However, once the tickets were booked I saw that my Amex card had been charged a total of Rs 27,654. I was shocked to see the Rs 7,500 extra levy," he said.
That is not all. Cyrus claims that not only was he charged extra but the tickets booked were of different denomination. "I was shocked to see that all four tickets were not booked under the same price. Three tickets were for Rs 6,551 and the fourth ticket was of Rs 7,557.u00a0
I have been following up with the call centre since October 23, but am yet to receive any positive response. When I contacted customer care they said there could be a problem with the browser or a technical fault, but nothing has been resolved. When we said we want to get the ticket cancelled as we have been overcharged, the travel portal said that we will be charged Rs 1000 per cancellation," he complained.
MiD DAY tried to contact the website via email, but there was no response.
