The Amarnath Yatra was suspended on Wednesday from both Pahalgam and Baltal base camps due to heavy rainfall, officials said. Over 3.93 lakh pilgrims have visited the shrine so far. The Jammu and Kashmir administration took the precautionary step to ensure safety. The Yatra is expected to resume once weather conditions improve.

Just a few hours after the second batch of pilgrims arrived for the sacred Amarnath Yatra, the Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended on Wednesday. As per the reports, the holy journey to the Amarnath Temple has been suspended from both the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps, which clearly made the devotees feel unhappy, officials said.
While posting on their social media platform, the Jammu and Kashmir Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) clarified that because of the heavy rainfall in the valley, the Amarnath Yatra has been suspended.
The Jammu and Kashmir Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) posted on X, "Shri Amarnathji Yatra suspended for a day from Pahalgam and Baltal."
Furthermore, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, said that "due to heavy, continuous rains since early morning on 30.07.2025, Yatra has not been released on the tracks from both the base camps, Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari, as cited by news agency ANI."
The decision to halt the pilgrimage was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of devotees. The Amarnath Yatra resumed earlier this month and is scheduled to conclude on August 9.
As per the DPIR, since the beginning of the Amarnath Yatra, a total of 3.93 lakh pilgrims have so far visited the Amarnath cave shrine. The post highlighted that, “So far, over 3.93 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Holy Cave Shrine during the Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2025," as reported by news agency ANI.
The sacred Amarnath shrine, located at an altitude of 3,888 meters in South Kashmir, draws thousands of devotees each year. Pilgrims undertake the journey via the traditional 48-kilometre Pahalgam route or the shorter but steeper 14-kilometre Baltal route.
Devotees from both domestic and international locations have been participating in the Amarnath pilgrimage with enthusiasm, commending the authorities for their efficient administration and well-organised arrangements.
Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir officially initiated the annual pilgrimage to the shrine of Lord Shiva in the region by flagging off the first wave of pilgrims for the Budha Amarnath Yatra from Jammu on Sunday.
While addressing the public during the flag-off event, Sinha stated, "More than a thousand individuals have recently embarked on the Budha Amarnath Yatra. "Exceptional provisions have been made by the Jammu and Kashmir administration for the Amarnath Yatra,” as per news agency ANI.
