Forty-two-year-old Sanjay Saxena, an assistant general manager of an IT company in Delhi, recently experienced the lackadaisical attitude ofu00a0 the police force in the Capital while getting an FIR registered at the local police station.u00a0 u00a0 American dream Sanjay who like any other techie dreamt of a job with better prospects on foreign shores, was duped by a fake recruiting agency. He tried applying for a job in the US and therefore contacted Agile Consultancy Pvt Ltd, through the Internet, which was operating in Ahmedabad.u00a0 "The company picked my profile on the Net and called me. They then emailed me about the director of a US-based firm who was coming to Ahmedabad on a trip. I applied for the job and the consultancy arranged my telephonic interview with the director. After a day they sent me an email, informing me about my selection. They then told me to apply for H1 visa for the US and demanded Rs 2 lakh. I paid the entire sum and they asked me to wait for their next call," explained Sanjay. But the wait lasted far too long and after a month, Sanjay called the consultancy to track the process of the visa application but didn't get a satisfactory reply. "I called the company many times to know about my case, but they always said that there are some problems and I'll get my visa soon. But after few months they didn't reply at all. I kept on calling them for 11 months but I didn't get any positive feedback. Then after a year I planned to lodge an FIR against the company," said Sanjay. And that is when the real problem started and the techie was made to run from pillar to post to register the FIR, which never happened in spite of the legitimate grievances. After waiting for a year he went to the Mayur Vihar police station on December 27, 2009 and filed a complaint against the company. Indifferent police "I went to the Mayur Vihar Phase-I police station and filed the complaint. Then I tried to lodge an FIR but the cops didn't agree to this. Only after filing an RTI (on January 12, 2010), the cops started investigating my case. They sent a notice to the company to appear at the police station on March 14. But someone from the company visited the cops on March 13 and went back to Ahmedabad. I was supposed to meet the company representative at the police station but to my dismay, the cops had allowed the representative to go back before we could meet. And the cops gave a clean chit to the company without even lodging an FIR," added Sanjay. High and dry In spite of writing six emails to the commissioner of police YS Dadwal in a span of six months, Sanjay hasn't got any response till date. "I posted six emails to the commissioner of police, but every time the auto reply system sends me a reference number, and after that there is no reply from their side," he added. "We will investigate why his FIR has not been lodged till now and why the policemen gave a clean chit to the accused company. Then only we can comment on this," said a police officer. "In my last email to the police commissioner, I wrote that I am surprised to see that in spite of being a literate person, I am facing so many problems to get my FIR registered. But there was simply no reaction from their side. I again filed an RTI on May 21, 2010 and am still waiting for the reply from Delhi police," said Sanjay. The Other Side An official associate with Agile Consultancy Ltd. refused comment on the issue.
