Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the government would conduct an inquiry into singer Zubeen Garg's death. Zubeen Garg, also known as Ya Ali, passed away in a freak scuba diving accident in Singapore on Friday, September 19. The veteran singer was 52. Ashok Singhal, the Assam Cabinet Minister, confirmed the singer's death on social media on Friday afternoon, which shook everyone from the fraternity.

After the suspicious death of singer Zubeen Garg, an FIR has been lodged against North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and the singer's manager, Siddhartha Sharma, at Morigaon police station, reports PTI.

Assam Chief Minister while talking to the media said that "Assam Police will probe the death of Zubeen Garg, and both Mahanta and Sharma, along with those who were present with the singer in his last moments, will be interrogated," as cited by news agency PTI.

The Chief Minister further added that, "There are reports that the singer was taken to a party the night before his death, and we are also trying to ascertain its veracity," as cited by news agency PTI.

Zubeen had a critical scuba diving accident. The Singapore police rescued him from the sea and rushed him to the hospital. He was promptly sent to a local hospital in Singapore by ambulance, where physicians were administering emergency care in the ICU and closely monitoring his status.

Zubeen had travelled to Singapore for the Northeast Festival, where he was due to perform today.

Singaporean authorities have also started their investigation, and "as the place of occurrence is not India, we will get the criminal part, if any, from that country, and if he was taken from Assam with a wrong intent, we will get this aspect from the state," the CM added.

"The state government will impartially ascertain all aspects related to his death, and all arrangements will be made if anyone wants to give any information or be a witness," he said.

While putting light on the suspicious death of Himanta Biswa Sarma, the CM further said that the matter should become absolutely clear to the people of the state so that nothing is hidden regarding the popular singer's death.
