The past three days have been traumatic and unforgettable for Navnath Janjurde. On March 15, his brother Suryabhan committed suicide after being allegedly harassed his college authorities. For members of his family residing in Hingavli taluka of Marathwada, the saddest part was they could not cremate Suryabhan's body, as it lay decaying at Sassoon hospital pending the post-mortem.
Red-tape
The autopsy was not conducted as police officials did not file the inquest, a must for a post-mortem. The body was partially decomposing when it arrived for post-mortem to Dr Santosh Wakchaure at Sassoon. "The boy was brought dead on March 15 but we received the panchnama only on March 17 morning. The boy died of poisoning," said Wakchaure.
A senior Sassoon official said the body lay unattended as Haveli and Bhor police stations passed the buck to each other. The matter was resolved when an MLA intervened and the Bhor police filed the inquest. Assistant Sub-Inspector V M Pawar of the Bhor police said a professor from Nirmaltai Khopte Adhyapak Vidyalaya, where Suryabhan studied, would be interrogated soon for allegedly harassing Suryabhan. The complaint said the professoru00a0 kept telling Suryabhan he would be failed for having written his final exam in black ink instead of blue.
