Assam Chief Minister-designate <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/assam-state-assembly-elections-2026-himanta-biswa-sarma-poised-for-third-term-as-cm-oath-ceremony-expected-on-may-12-23629186" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Himanta Biswa Sarma</a> on Monday announced the names of four leaders who will be inducted into the new Assam Cabinet during the swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati.
The leaders set to take oath as ministers alongside Sarma are Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro and Ajanta Neog.
The announcement was made by Sarma through a post on social media platform X ahead of the formation of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government for a third consecutive term in Assam.
Sarma said the ministers would take oath in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior NDA leaders attending the ceremony in Guwahati.
<h2>Ranjit Das named Speaker candidate</h2>
Along with the Cabinet announcement, Sarma also revealed that senior BJP leader and MLA Ranjit Das has been chosen as the NDA candidate for the post of Speaker of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/people-of-assam-voted-for-development-maharashtra-dy-cm-shinde-congratulates-himanta-biswa-sarma-for-his-third-term-win-23630030" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Assam</a> Legislative Assembly.
Sarma congratulated all the leaders selected for key responsibilities in the new government and expressed confidence in the team&rsquo;s ability to continue the state&rsquo;s development agenda.
In another message shared on social media, the Chief Minister-designate said the new administration would work with full commitment towards building a stronger and more prosperous Assam.
He added that the government would focus on accelerating development and maintaining the momentum achieved during the previous terms of the NDA administration in the state.
<h2>Top NDA leaders expected at oath-taking ceremony</h2>
The oath-taking ceremony of the new Assam government is scheduled to be held on May 12 in Guwahati and is expected to witness the presence of several senior BJP and NDA leaders from across the country.
Apart from Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/union-defence-minister-rajnath-singh-reviews-energy-supply-amid-west-asia-tensions-23629930" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Rajnath Singh</a>, Union ministers, chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from NDA-ruled states are also expected to attend the event.
Ahead of the ceremony, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal described the formation of the NDA government for a third straight term as a major moment for the people of Assam.
Speaking to reporters, Sonowal thanked the people of the state for once again placing their trust in the NDA alliance and said the government would continue working towards making Assam one of the most developed states in the country.
He said the continued support for the NDA reflected public confidence in the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma and the policies implemented by the alliance over the past years.
<h2>NDA secures massive mandate in Assam polls</h2>
The BJP-led NDA registered a dominant victory in the Assam Assembly elections, winning 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly.
The BJP secured 82 seats, while alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People&rsquo;s Front (BPF) won 10 seats each.
The Congress-led opposition alliance managed to secure 19 seats. Raijor Dal and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) won two seats each, while the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/trinamool-congress-united-under-mamata-banerjees-leadership-abhishek-banerjee-23328837" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Trinamool Congress</a> (TMC) secured one seat. The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) failed to win any seat in the election.
