Delhi University college administrator pulled up in RTI report for submitting fake experience certificate; students up in arms

An RTI plea filed by the students of Tibbia College, a DU affiliated institution, has revealed that the principal of the college submitted a fake experience certificate to get a job way back in 1977.

The letter issued by Unani Medical College, Kanpur says that Hakim Ahmad Yaseen had worked as a lecturer and physician in the college and was attached to the hospital for a period of three years, w.e.f. July1, 1973 to June 30, 1976.

Contrary to this, on the top of the letter is written that the college was registered under Indian Societies Act 21 of 1860 in the year 1974-75. Also the college operated only for a year, before closing down.
Varun Gaur, a student of Tibbia College said, "A student delegation will meet the health and education ministers regarding this matter. We will continue our protest until action is taken against the principal."

Meanwhile, students are also protesting against the recent re-appointment of the principal. "No teacher can become the principal, director or dean of any college after reaching the age of 60 years. However, Hakim Ahmad Yaseen was appointed as principal after turning 60 and continued on the post till September 30 last year when he reached 62 years," claimed Jitender Tiwari,u00a0 a BAMS student of the college.

"Again after five days he was re-appointed as principal and is slated to continue till the age of 65 years. He doesn't have a proper degree and has never handled any OPD but still he received the best state physician award from the Delhi government," added Tiwari.

Students say that despite submitting a memorandum on April 29, the Director, Medical Education, is yet to take any initiative. They demanded that the Delhi government should immediately terminate the services of the "fake" principal and appoint someone else.

"Delhi government unconstitutionally appointed the principal again. The government also overlooked a pending inquiry by the Health Ministry and went ahead with the decision of appointing Yaseen, the principal, yet again," said another student, requesting anonymity.

Despite several attempts to get in touch with the principal of the college, which was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1921, MiD DAY received no response.

Only on paper

In March 15, 2008, Valson Thampu, then principal of St Stephen's College was forced to quit following controversy over his "fake" PhD degree. Controversy began stalking Thampu when he sent showcause notices to two History teachers and began calling himself "principal". Since Delhi University rules make it mandatory for a college principal to have a PhD degree, Thampu also declared he had a doctorate in Theology from Allahabad Agricultural University. The twin moves led to an agitation by the Delhi University Teachers' Association dubbing his degree "fake", the teachers' body sought his resignation. In March, in reply to an RTI application made to University Grants Commission (UGC), UGC said there were doubts about the veracity of the doctorate conferred on Thampu.
