City police are sweating it out to create awareness among Bangaloreans around 100 police officers took part in an Awareness on Crime Prevention run on Sunday morning.

The rally started from BHEL Circle and ended at J P Park in Yeshwanthpur.

Officers including the additional commissioner of police M R Poojar, joint commissioner Alok Kumar and deputy commissioneru00a0 (north) Syed Ulfath Hussain ran alongside college students, residents and other police personnel.

Those who participated in the rally distributed pamphlets to passers-by and took an oath not only to prevent crime but also to help the police in detection.

Such programmes will instil a sense of confidence among the people and promote a better police-public relationship, Ulfath Hussain said.

Concerned over the increase in crime like robbery and mugging in the city, commissioner S M Bidari instructed the police to step up patrolling and regular nakabandis (vehicle checkpoints in and around sensitive areas).

Bidari also asked private security guards and people to use licenced firearms against the criminals in self-defence.
