Shruti Shoorpali (25), who was on her way to her first job interview, metu00a0 a tragic end last morning when she was run over by a speeding tempo. Shruti, who was riding pillion with her brother Harshad (22), was thrown off the nova bike by a tempo at the busy Karve road intersection.

Sunil Aher, owner of coffee shop Aasingh Burgars, who witnessed the accident, said, "As soon as the signal turned green, a tempo speeding towards Paud Phata rammed into the two-wheeler causing Shruti to fall. In a fraction of a second, the tempo rode over her head, and the driver fled towards Paud Road but was later caught."

Shruti, a student of Indsearch Institute, was on her way to her first job interview when the tragedy struck.

Tanaji Pansare, a colleague of Shruti's father at National Bank, who was also waiting at the same signal, said, "At first, I could not recognise the body on the road as Shruti. It was shocking to see the girl lying in a pool of blood." It was Pansare who contacted the traffic control room, which led to the arrest of the tempo driver Shiva Narayan Rathod (32), a resident of Home Colony in Karve Nagar, at the next signal.

Shruti, who was travelling with her brother Harshad was rushed to a private hospital in Kothrud where she was declared dead on arrival. Harshad was too shaken to give his statement.
