Three workers died following the collapse of a three-storey building near Sadbhavna Park in central Delhi’s Daryaganj on Wednesday, officials said on Wednesday, reported the PTI.

“Information regarding the incident was received at 12:14 pm, after which a police team, four fire engines, and rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene. The injured were transported to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital. Civic authorities, including the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), have been notified. Legal action will follow upon verification of facts,” a police officer stated, according to the PTI.

A Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official reported that the building collapsed without warning while construction activity was underway.

“Three individuals were rescued from the debris and immediately taken to hospital. Rescue operations are ongoing,” the official said.

The deceased have been identified as Zubair, Gulsagar, and Taufiq, who were working at the site when the structure gave way, as per the PTI.

According to police, all three were trapped beneath the rubble and were declared dead upon arrival at hospital.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also joined the rescue effort shortly after the incident, working in coordination with Delhi Police, fire brigade personnel, and DDMA officials. Heavy machinery has been deployed to clear the debris as rescue teams continue to search through the rubble, the news agency reported on Wednesday.

Sources said preliminary information indicated that some construction work was going on at the site at the time of the collapse. However, the exact cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained.

Further investigation is in progress, police added.

50 people shifted from flood-prone areas in Faridabad as Yamuna level rises

Meanwhile, the Faridabad police and the district administration team on Tuesday shifted more than 50 people from flood-prone areas, Shiv Enclave Part 2 and Basantpur, and took them to rescue camps, officials said, reported the PTI.

The water level of the Yamuna in Faridabad has increased due to the release of water into the Yamuna from Delhi's Okhla Barrage, which has led to waterlogging in the low-lying areas, they said.

The Ballabhgarh DCP said village heads have been informed that there was a possibility that the water level would rise further and people living near the river would need to be evacuated.

DC Vikram Singh said the district administration is in alert mode and villages near the Yamuna are being monitored.
